Thought I'd create a place to post anything you've heard about the new generation zero. Due for rease this year I believe and, from what I've seen, it's another significant step up.

Which new thing are you talking about? The new turnkey products or the hybrid car grant?

Just the next generation zero. Still a kit or a turnkey as far as I'm aware...

Aluminium uprights, fully formed bodywork, new dash/console layout etc.

Anyone know?

Any idea on the donor ? In my opinion the Sierra is no longer any more viable than a mk2 escort.

The mx5 is a great choice but the way they mounted the diff is a bodge and the added expense of custom shafts really defeats the idea.

Any more details of this?

Sound very similar to a project between caterham and Morgan a while back called the lifecar project. Iirc it was a range extender but rather than batteries it used capacitors.

I believe the hybrid project is different. The new Zero is simply a new mk of the current car with uprated components, better design and less donor parts (e.g. the billet alu. uprights). I don't know about which donor car but it amazes me we haven't moved onto something new. The mx5 is a good start at moving on i guess.

I wonder if GBS are aiming at the Westfield/Caterham market where (for most models) you don't need donor parts at all. For how few components you need, it does seem a lot of hassle to me...and there's nothing like putting shiny new bits on

Quick update:

Dropped in on the recent GBS track day at Rockingham Raceway. A number of the new mk5 components were fitted to the demonstrator including new calipers and font corners with billet hubs. Not only do these new parts look fantastic and remove the need for so many donor parts, but the handling and braking associated was astonishing. Sounds like bodywork will be much improved too (no more jointing of square edges) along with tweaks to the chassis.

Sounds like it's nearly ready. I literally can't wait to see it in its entirety.

Also sounds like parts will be available to upgrade/update older versions.

Ah excellent news. I'm off to see them next week about kit options for a new project so I'll be very keen to hear what they have to say about the possibility of a mx5 MK3 based kit.
