If there was contact, your insurer contacts the other vehicles insurer and they sort it out between themselves.

To carry on from UncleFista

If you hit a pothole, then IF the hole had been reported and nothing had been done, then they may pay out.

If it hasn't been reported then you can report it so that others may benefit.

That's how it works in Essex anyway.

Hi there was no contact with another car, we were pushed over to the side of the road or we would have hit the 4x4 head on think it would have killed us both, so will not go through my insurance not worth for about £100, so may just suck it up, thanks.

Can't advise/help regarding legal matters, but this pot hole website works for getting the relevant road authority notified and the pot hole sorted.

https://www.fillthathole.org.uk/hazards/report

Used it myself a few times local to me and the potholes usually get repaired within 3-4 weeks of you reporting them.
