Taxing a car online
novacaine - 2/10/09 at 09:21 PM

evening all,

here's a topic I hope can get cleared up

My car is SORN'd at the moment, ive just re-insured in and taken it down for its MOT tomorrow, now I need to tax it,

if i were to tax it online do i have to wait for the tax disc to come through the post before i can use the car?

i know the offence is not displaying the tax disc but is there an exemption for waiting for the tax disc in the post?

Cheers

Matt

Once SORN tax on line fails, visit to the post office required, where they scowl at you as the electronic process fails so they have to write stuff down.

Make sure you take your docs....

No you can use it once you get the confirmation online. Print it and keep it with the car untill the disc arrives.

never had that problem myself. Taxing it would end sorn so i cant see why they would have a problem?

However, it can take weeks for it to be put onto the insurance database...

Yeah missus did this too, I'm sure they said she could drive it straight away cos it's on the database that the tax is paid for and in the post.

on the flip side, i once got pulled cos the copper said my van had no tax, he was most puzzled when i showed him the disc! So as above, take the printout with you.

Tax it online and the print off slip thing says display that in the windscreen until the disc arrives.

Never had a problem taxing online when sorn.
