Golf

You poor boy.

I get the choice of a 2003 Vauxhall Vivaro, a 2001 Transit 3.5 flat bed, or go in my own Berlingo with over 200,000 on the clock. Berlingo wins by a working stereo.

out of interest. lots of you are saying golf but so many 7's out these have the zetec fitted. so whats so good about the golf and what did ford get wrong with the focus?

sorry about the semi-hijack...

I've said I'll never have another VW after the T4 Transporter I wasted loads of money on, not a good word to say about their diesel engines. Been a few years mind. Since then the cars have all been Volvos and the vans all Citroens.

golf on looks, doubt you could fault either car TBH.

Golf seems the obvious answer but having seen a few of each (with a few miles on the clock) I'd take the Focus.

You can't go far wrong with anything from the Ford range at the moment. The VW's aren't what they used to be. End of the day though and it 's a badge thing for many people.

Golf seems an obvious choice, but I don't reckon there's much between them in either looks or quality.

I suppose it depends on the spec too - the S model is entry level at VW (IIRC) whereas the Zetec might have a few more toys and fixtures as standard.

Wouldn't touch another company car again, do you know how much they cost you in tax and the lost NCB when you come back to insure a private car.

You should do the maths before making a decision. I thought having a company car would be great - soon got fed up with it though couldn't wait to get rid.

Found this may help you decide linky

Many sevens have the zetec because it bolts straight onto a commonly available rwd gearbox.

It is much more difficult to use a vw engine because there isn't an easily available rwd box although I would suspect we would see a lot more vw motors in 7's if there was.

Edit - oh er golf of course - no contest.

Sounds like mechanically there's not much to choose between the two, personally I write down all the factors and compare the two on paper such as:
How easy to reverse into a parking space
General comfort
How good the toys are (stereo, cruise control etc)
Can you fit you golf clubs into the boot (or baby's highchair in my case)

Most insurance companies do offers for those coming off company cars too so that shouldn't be a worry (as long as it's not a taxi, but that's a different rant)

iscmatt - 10/10/09 at 03:46 PM

golfs are to common and i like the new shape of the focus.

morcus - 10/10/09 at 07:07 PM

I'd go with the Focus because it looks bigger. I don't know if it actually is but I've seen both at dealerships and had a good look and I reckon the boot is bigger and that the cabin is more spacious, and I prefered the ford interior.
