Lotus 7 gullwing coupé

I wasn't sure where to put this so here seems most logical. I've seen photographs of Lotus 7's with hardtops that were aparantly built for GT racing and was wondering if anyone had any infomation on them as all I can find is that they were hot and claustraphobic.

Donkervoorts are used in GT4 racing with a hardtop. Not sure if the doors swing out or up though.]

From the pic below I would guess they swing up.

The car I'm intrested in was actually built by Lotus and was a genuine 7 rather than a sevenesque car, I'm guessing it would have raced in the 60's.



These pictures and the small captions with them are all I've got at the moment.

The Aspid was at either autosport or a far corner of london motor show I think the last time I went, can't quite remember. Looked like a pretty serious bit of kit from a reasonable distance with lots of pretty CNC'd bits, but the chassis looked pretty awful! Main sections were made from heavy angle iron for example. Wasn't very impressed...

Probably not the info you were after but thought I'd mention it!

The car your are looking at is a S1 Lotus 7 with a Fibrepair top . It sold for £77 pounds

GULLWING HARDTOP - Designed with competition in mind, Fibrepair Ltd. made these 'gullwing' hardtops to allow Seven racers to compete in the then less competitive GT classes. Shown at the Racing Car Show in January 1963, not many were produced as they were found to be noisy, smelly and claustrophobic and therefore of little use off the racetrack.


Now according to my sources theres a differance in one saying S1 and the other saying s2 the book states 1963 that fibre pair made them.

the other picture ive got is a S2 fitted with one as it has flat top rear wings.

They were called the Seven Coupes

Ive just got my copy back so its not going anywhere.

It was this book and a guy name Henry Koekemoor who got me into Sevens a quarter of a century ago.

Oh and living down the road from the Birkin factory.
