Strawberry jam,
Fresh cream,
Ham and pease pudding,
Coleslaw,
Chocolare sauce,
Fresh honey,
Golden syrup,
Nutela spread,
Lemon curd,
And finally,
Peanut butter.

Not all on the same pan-cake mind you, and sometimes mixed.

Final score here;

3 for me with the kids earlier. Nutella and strawberries is my preferred filling

MikeR - 8/3/11 at 08:05 PM

Large American pancakes for breakfast x 4
Small American pancakes for lunch x 3
Supposed to be having about 8 'normal' pancakes for dinner but the g/f doesn't feel well so we're having them for breakfast tomorrow.

Sorry - too late!

Pancakes were made to use up the last of the eggs before fasting in Lent... you've missed the deadline.

JoelP - 21/2/12 at 08:37 PM

id love to eat 12 but i couldnt be bothered to mix up and fry that many. You should rebel and eat them at any time of year that you want them.

Been doing quite a lot of cooking myself, biscuits and cakes etc, quite good fun and of course you get to eat a load of junk!

Liam - 21/2/12 at 09:10 PM

Only three each for me and wifey . Delia's recipe said that should do 12-14!!! LIEEEES.

Sugar and lemon - all other fillings should be banned.

Same here, started getting comments from workmates regarding my loss in volume and remaining completely sworn off carbs until I hit my target.

Kids went wild though

Ninehigh - 21/2/12 at 09:29 PM

One for son, with jam and sugar. Apparently he had one at the childminder's too with just sugar..
He doesn't like my lemon one, but does like the maple syrup

MikeR - 21/2/12 at 10:40 PM

We had a pint and a half of mixture between me and the misses (little one was in bed asleep).

Had combinations of sugar, lemon, golden syrup and maple syrup (including all of them together).

Bizarrely, I had exactly the same this year...

Must be getting predictable in my old age

slingshot2000 - 12/2/13 at 02:50 PM

I'm not going to be having any this year, as I am currently sat in James Cook University Hospital Coronart Care Unit after suffering a heaet attack yesterday.
I will look forward to seeing what concoctions you guys come up with this year.
If junior eats a reasonable numberI will post his score when he visits me later.
HAPPY PANCAKE DAY !

whitestu - 12/2/13 at 04:22 PM

I've given them up, along with every other type of sweet stuff / cake / bread etc.

Given the list of pancakes you had last year I'm surprised you lasted this long! Seriously, hope you get better soon!

Stu

slingshot2000 - 12/2/13 at 06:09 PM

Cheers guys !
As soon as I get near a real keyboard I will post a thread detailing my experiences this week !

HAPPY PANCAKE DAY !

Blimey! Get well soon!!!

James

James - 12/2/13 at 07:17 PM

I'm not having any!

Got a competition on Sat and I'm overweight for my category so been dieting for a fortnight (and massively upping my training!).

Should have lost the required 2kg by then but not taking any chances. Turns out you're allowed to eat pancakes any day of the year!

Cheers,
James

Peteff - 12/2/13 at 08:30 PM

I had three for breakfast with honey and an orange squeezed on them. Nice.

I intend to, cheers !

JoelP - 13/2/13 at 08:05 PM

Christ, hope you're on the mend slingshot! You'll have to break with tradition and have pancakes at a later date! I've always wondered why we only have them once a year when they taste so good.

Xtreme Kermit - 13/2/13 at 08:28 PM

Yikes. How you are on the mend.

No pancakes for me this year as I was out for the evening for a catch up with friends I see once in a blue moon.

MikeR - 13/2/13 at 09:49 PM

Get well and make sure you catch up on the pancakes - althought perhaps only one or two.

We had a disaster last night, forgot to count how many we had. Split 1litre of mix between two of us. Lets just say we had a few. Butter and maple syrup was nice but after 3 in a row it was a little sickly.

splitrivet - 14/2/13 at 12:25 AM

We get em round here on a regular basis in a different version called oatcakes, with smoky bacon and melted cheese mmm mmm mmm, you guys dont know what your missing.
Cheers,
Bob

slingshot2000 - 17/2/15 at 05:31 PM

It is very early this year, but pancake day is with us once again.
Who is having some, how many and what toppings / fillings are you having ?

I will post again, one we have scoffed ours.

Regards
Jon.

P.S. I cannot believe it is 2 years since my heart attack.

Xtreme Kermit - 17/2/15 at 08:26 PM

Holy thread resurrection...

Yummy scrummy golden syrup and lemon juice, followed by Nutella!!

slingshot2000 - 17/2/15 at 09:15 PM

Well, if nobody else was going to toss some and resurrect this thread; surely I had to !

I had about 6 or seven. All healthy option this time; extra eggs, chopped and diced strawberries, a squeeze of a fresh lemon and sometimes a drop or two of single cream.
No sugars (apart from natural ones), syrup, chocolate spreads, treacle, jam or anything fattening on any of mine.

This years final score;

Junior; 8
SWMBO; 2
Me; 6

MikeR - 17/2/15 at 10:55 PM

This year I got two scrambled egg on toast. We forgot and are having a rough time so didn't bother.

James - 18/2/15 at 12:15 AM

We experimented a bit this year...

Started with fried mushroom and cheese and then a couple of tuna and cheese. Quite nice but worth warming the tuna as it cools down the whole pancake!

After that it was malteaser with white chocolate for the maximum sweetness hit!

slingshot2000 - 9/2/16 at 04:27 PM

Well it is that time of year again; who is having pancakes, how many and with what toppings ?

Benzine - 9/2/16 at 05:05 PM

slingshot2000 - 9/2/16 at 11:08 PM

No-one else eating pancakes today ?

nick205 - 10/2/16 at 09:08 AM

2 for me last night with lime and sugar.

Nice, but probably not necessary to be honest

rusty nuts - 10/2/16 at 06:29 PM

For the first time in 24 years of marriage SWMBO cooked me pancakes on Shrove Tuesday rather than a few days later (after me whinging at her)

slingshot2000 - 28/2/17 at 07:31 PM

Well it is here again; I cannot believe it is 6 years since I first started this thread Q

So, who ate all the pancakes ?

Swmbo cooked them all and managed to eat 3.

16 yearold son managed 10, a mixture of all sorts, mostly sweet and unhealthy ( hey ho, we were all teenagers once ! )

I managed eleven ( think swmbo was cooking smaller ones for me),
cheese n onion, strawberry jam n cream, mince n onion, golden syrup, ground beef n maple syrup; and repeat.

I will be back on my diet, tomorrow !

To anyone who has done this with their kids today ( or without ), well done; you deserve an Easter Egg !

Just the 4, flour, salt an egg and milk liquidised up, cooked on a high heat, smoking oil then old fashioned sugar and lemon... Yummy

SJ - 28/2/17 at 09:15 PM

I had one in Boulogne a couple of weeks ago. Made with buckwheat with cheese, ham & an egg, and not half bad. Especially with a nice glass of beer. None today though.

slingshot2000 - 13/2/18 at 07:18 PM

2018

Old thread, no apologies; I started it . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

What toppings ?

Who had pancakes tonight, how many and what toppings ?

Angel Acevedo - 5/3/19 at 09:33 PM

Maybe everybody is trying to add lightness....
Or trying to improve Power to Weight ratio...

Me, I ate like a pig today (3:32 PM still) I donīt think Iīm having any...
Unless something good appears in the horizon...

Bluemoon - 5/3/19 at 10:24 PM

Lemon juice and sugar x 2

slingshot2000 - 25/2/20 at 09:57 PM

Who had how many tonight
Fillings etc?

steve m - 25/2/20 at 11:14 PM

None for us, as it smacks of religion, and that starts wars, and tomorrow is lent, another total waste of time day, and should be banned

coyoteboy - 26/2/20 at 08:33 AM

Nooo get well soon!

I had 4 Nutella. On Sunday, because not about Tuesday. Then 4 more on tuesday as plans got cancelled.

I don't understand savoury pancakes.

So you insist your boss let's you work on good Friday and Christmas day? Some how I doubt it.

You can't have your (pan) cake and eat it.

steve m - 26/2/20 at 10:06 PM

Come on guys, it was meant as a semi joke, as I am sure we are all adult and wise enough, that Jesus and his "friends" was a ladybird book, writer 2000 years ago, on a bit of sand stone, as some fable to tell the kids,

and as for the question

Yes, I have and worked every bank holiday, from 1979-2015 as I worked in aviation, at Gatwick, and aviation doesn't stop for a holiday like normal life, nor Police etc, in the years my kids grew up, I was on a day off xmas twice , there 37 and 43 now

steve

sdh2903 - 26/2/20 at 11:06 PM

I too work in the industry and I'm calling you out on that statement. By the law of averages I cop for about half of the bank holidays which doesnt bother me although I've copped for 4 out of the last 5 christmases. So I dont see how you could have worked every bank holiday and every christmas bar 2 over a long period?

Unless you volunteered for them for the extra wonga that is.

steve m - 26/2/20 at 11:25 PM

Ok, maybe half of the bank holidays, but xmas, honestly, ive only actually been totally off for two in 40 ish years,
ive come off nights into 25th, or worked nights 24t and 25th, so around xmas day, but virgin atlantic changed the shifts around so much, you couldn't plan more than 3 months in advance, ive done 2 earlys, two lates, 2 off, then changed to 3 lates 3 earlys, 3 off, then back to 2 dys 2 nights 4 off. and then in 2016 I took redundancy, and have all the bank holidays etc off !

Shift work is a PITA

steve

sdh2903 - 26/2/20 at 11:33 PM

I dont know it has its perks. I've worked some dreadful patterns including the horrendous BA seven day shift. But luckily now been on 4 on 4 off for the past 15 years and it's great for the time off, although 12 hour summer night shifts can be grim.

Any ways back to pancakes........
