Hi everyone,
I have no landline at my house. BT say there are no spare lines and they want £17000 to hook me up. I have given up with them!!
Anyway, I have a good mobile phone contract and my iPhone can act as a personal wifi hotspot. I have unlimited internet on my phone.
Is there a way I can boost my 3G signal? I read about a farmer who made his own DIY mast but cannot find details on how he did it or what he used. I
am only a mile from the mast in open countryside. I just need a boost to make it better inside my house.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Dan
Most houses attenuate radio/mobile signals. It is due the magnetic field around buildings. Old buildings are worse. There is a product called a cell
booster, never tried it:

I don't know how you connect it up but it cannot be that difficult.
One thing you can try at very little cost is a parabola made out of cardboard and tin foil just place it behind the phone. Theoretically it will give
you a 3db improvement.
Don't know if it will help you, but most mobile networks will sell you a booster to boost network coverage using WiFi - may work the other way as well. I've had one from Vodafone before as they have no signal where I live. The issue for me was the limited range of the booster meant the mobile didn't work near home, which is often where you need it to work.

I have no landline either.
Looked around and found a wireless internet supplier.
Have you tried these guys? looking at your location they seem to cover it.
wireless internet
providers
Before I got the wireless internet, I used an antenna on the chimney cabled down to a 3g dongle which had an antenna plug. The dongle went into a
router which got me wireless in the house.
hope that helps
First question, you say you have unlimited internet but does the contract allow tethering? Most 'unlimited' packages are based on the
limited capability of a phone or tablet, they specifically exclude a laptop or PC connecting through it (and therefore using far more data)
Second, would satellite internet be any good? I remember it being a bit expensive when I considered it, but it might be worth it as an alternative.

Yes you can - depends what network you are with. Eg:

I am with Three. I do not have a landline. That's how that device works. Thanks for taking the time to reply though
Thanks
Dan
Sorry - wrong 3 product. I'm sure they used to have a signal booster.
But the O2 link also includes products which (supposedly) covers 3 signals:
http://www.o2signalboosters.co.uk/products/Dual-Band-GSM-900-and-3G-2100MHZ-Signal-Booster-for-100sqm.html
I tried a Three dongle, which gave better reception than a phone. Not sure whether you could put that up in the loft, say, and then get its wifi
signal in the rest of the house? That would presumably need an additional sim/contract.
Just found these guys, who feature in a couple of online forums. Might be worth asking them too? http://www.solwise.co.uk/3g-antenna-outdoor.htm
