Go-kart axle

Looking at using the 440cc snowmobile engine in my garage on a street going kart.

I have both primary and secondary clutches. I want to run a chain to the axle.

the question is, what sort of axle will I need?
this engine is around 50-60hp.

can anyone show me an example?

Look at this site;

I think you'll find it very useful.

Try this: http://www.karting.co.uk/MP/

You're looking for a gearbox kart axle, 35mm hollow. This will have keyways and circlip grooves. The driven sprocket (which is available in q/r split form) goes between two roller bearing in what are essentially pillow blocks. There's a lot of s/h stuff kicking round now. But make sure the axle is straight, they bend in crashes fairly easily and only need the tiniest bend to scupper things.

As kissy says, you will need a beefy axle to run such a powerfull engine.So one from a 250 gearbox kart would be best.I think these are 40-50mm hollow but all parts are readily available.You could probably pick up a complete rolling chassis for not too much money and i,m sure the snowmobile engine would easily fit.Look on Ebay, search kart,karting you will get 100,s off items and dozens of karts.
