Ive aquired a rover 75 tourer, (dont laugh, as was very cheap !!!)
has any on got an idea on decoding the coded radio??

Its a CD80, what ever that is, and because the battery was flat, whan i picked up the car, the radio memory has gone

Erm, apparently, if you wrap it up in a plastic bag then leave it in the freezer over night. This should clear the code and allow you to enter a new code. A chav tip I picked up at work !

Yeah the freezer should work. Make sure it is in a bag and dont force it to thaw!

Mind you in this weather it'll prob stay frozen for weeks!!!

(Oh if its a CD player, when thawed run a cd cleaner through it before a real cd)

Take the radio out, in most cases, the security concious dealer will have written the code on the outer case!

There are radio places that can decode most radios.

TBH id throw it away and put an aftermarket one in. Them standard ones decide not to read cds after a while.

Do not put in the freezer
(1) Its an urban myth
(2) It will freeze the LCD display and cause it to fail.

Advice on taking the radio out to look for the code is good.
Post year 2000 radios are more difficult to get codes for and tend to be main dealer jobs A pity you didn't have the Alpine unit the last batches of those Rover fitted were all coded 0000, hower try entering 3666 I have encountered that code a couple of times on CD80 units.

Search for it on the internet. There are loads of sites that can give you the correct code.

I wouldnt have tried the freezer,anyway,
as I had never belived it to work !

Not sure of the make, as it does not say, but it is definetly a cd80
It also has no visible means of removing the unit from the facia

Getting it out is easy -- the little sunshade over the radio is held on by two screws, behind are two more screws that hold the trim, I can't remember if you have also got to remove the little filler plate between the climate control unit and the ash tray to get acces to more screwsbut it can be pried out quite easily.

Radio can them be released with a very small screw driver.

Recomend you get a copy of the MG-Rover workshop manual CD off E-bay -- I am told some file share networks also have it.
