Inline 6 engines
liam.mccaffrey - 15/2/09 at 09:42 PM

Can the collective brain come up with a list of inline 6 engines that have their exhaust on the left hand side when in RWD configuration.

I am pretty sure that excludes the volvo whiteblock.

I'm thinking maybe Jag, BMW (not sure)

I came across this today, wish I had a little spare cash or would snap it up

Jag Getrag Gearbox

Perfect to mate to an XK engine for a classic project.

what about tuscan speed 6 engine?

liam.mccaffrey - 16/2/09 at 12:06 AM

some great suggestions keep them coming!

following on from this post a few weeks ago linky I have been talking to a few friends, (interestingly from very different backgrounds) about jointly building a semi-modern visually accurate replica of the talbot lago T26C. which led to this thread about inline sixes with left side exhausts.

I would quite like to use the volvo, and do a mirror image replica.

Any one know about the BMW inline 6's?

Can't sleep so...

BMW - right
Jag - left
Nissan - left
Mercedes (190 cosworth!) - right
Vauxhall (lotus carlton!) - left
TVR Speed 6 - left

Modern straight six's (aj6 and aj16) have the exhaust on the right. The old XK engine has it on the left.

How could you go past a Skyline 6? The Aussie Nissan 3.0 litres (also used in the Holden VL Commodore and in Turbo form too) are around $200 used, good hp and good for 400,000 kms without blinking. In Oz they are considered one of the best all round engines ever.

Visit some of the forums for those engines, eye opening.

The nissan straight 6 looks very very interested (says the lad whos changed his engine twice already before its even been fitted) but it looks like these are like hens teeth in the UK.

The GM 250ci and 292ci are both great engines with exhaust on the left side. A little big for a locost though .
The new GM 4.2L L6 also does, but its a crap engine.
Cheers.

Try the following searches:

Skyline engine

or if you want a particular variant, use the engine codes:
RB25
RB26
RB20
