Hi all, has or is anyone running a 2.0pinto on sidedraughts? what sort of power are you getting?

cheers

My opinion, don't bother, bike carbs all the way, but thats not the question you asked so I'll shut up now

Cheers

I ran mine on both 40s and 45s DCOE's

The 45 unlocked some more power especially up the top end, but also reduced the fuel consumption by approx 5mpg to an average of 22mpg.

Look a lot better than bike carbs (which I still dont think are as good as a properly set up pair of side draughts) but then I am biased

I then switched to injection on 36mm throttle bodies and the difference was noticable. No effect on power, but much better low down driveability.

Going by the on the road performance (and what it could keep up with 2 up) it was putting out somewhere around 160-170bhp.

i think bike carbs are no good as well, i have 45 dhla's on my red top, they look fantastic, you can pick up a set of twin 40's and an inlet manifold for a couple of hundred £ and loads of people have done it so there is plenty of info on which jets you need

bike carbs £30-£60
inlet manifold free(make it yourself) to £160
dyno jet kit £50 ish
rolling road set up £100 ish

More stories of people having problems with bike carbs.
I have had problems with the same set of carbs on 2 engines so am swapping to DCOE's. Have a set of 40's but most people say 45's for a 2.1 Pinto with big valve head and 300 duration cam.
The jets are interchangeable between 40's and 45's but not the venturies so will build up the 40's and swap when i have the cash for 45's.

can you really get 170 bhp from a pinto ?

anyway dont waste your cash get yourself a zetec cheap as chips power, pinto is old hat history, zetec is good power no mods needed.

2.1 Pinto on twin Weber 45s. A properly set up pair of webers don't go "out of tune" Mine haven't been touched for at least a couple of years.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, the biggest problem with webers is finding someone who really knows how to set them up.

Depending on the carbs you choose bike carbs can be very cheap and effective.

Mine cost £30 for the carbs, £10 to make the manifold [no welding needed], plus the cost of an air filter.

They work really well and drivability is excellent. I set my own up with an AFR meter so it probably could be better, but goes really well and does about 38mpg.

Yeah but you cant beat the sound of a well tuned set of 40's trying to suck anything that gets in their way

I have a pair of 40's for my pinto but to get the jets that are right for engine will cost £219...that's quite a lot

ours recently did 110bhp@wheels @5800rpm, so roughly 130bhp flywheel. thats a totally standard 2.0 pinto (injection head), dellorto 40's and MK manifold running on the stock transit ignition.
