zetec alternator mounting
femster87 - 1/11/10 at 04:04 PM

Idea for mounting the alternator on blacktop engine. I really do not want to pay for the kits around, the build cost is mounting up too quickly. So I would appreciate anybody's DIY solution.

cheers

Its not a big job.

pick an alternator and some 6mm plate. Stick a couple of lugs on it and wedge it under the inlet.

Ive done four home made ones and just use what ever is cheap at the time with a multi v pulley.

I think this one was a R5

First attempt for the 1.8 silvertop....

Have you got the air con pump bracket off the blacktop? I simply modified mine to make a slimmer bracket for the alternator.

Hope that inspires you, cost me nought but a bit time and a new belt

My attempt! In the end wanted to use my pinto alt

In this picture it shows the adjuster which is why I wanted the concave/convex washers the other day (still do m8), because the angle changes of the threaded rod when its wound in and out, hence why the washer is a better solution but I'm buggered if I'm paying £13 for a pair of washers!

Cheers Rich

Not the neatest job in the world but it works.

Very clever mate, didn't even think of using the alt as an idler pulley.

Nice work!
