Clutch setup pedal travel problems

I have a sierra clutch quadrant with the auto adjust and ratchet.

When I put the cable on it self ratchets and takes up the slack and the cable the problem is there is not enough travel and I can't engage the gears.

Should I put more preload on the cable and much cuz when I do this I think I get clutch slip.

personally I'd bin off the ratchet system and redesign it.

The ratchet thing wasn't good when it was on the sierras.....it used to slip and cause the clutch pedal to disappear up inside the dash every 20,000 miles or so.

I had problems with mine and converted it to a fixed pedal with a manual clutch cable. Still has the quadrant, but it's locked solid with a bolt through it.. Cheers Ray

Either scrap the quadrant or...

The quadrants on different Ford models have a different radius so different ones pull the cable different distances. The putside dimentions are all the same, it's just the radius in the groove that varies. Each one is a different colour. Find one that has a larger radius/shallower groove.

Had the same problem on mine. Added a (approx) 1 cm spacer to increase the effective length of the outer. Been great ever since

Usually black in colour the Granada 55mm clutch pawl is the one you want, some brake pipe in the deeper recess helps as does using some steel tube to reduce the exposed cable.

Do you have any pictures of what you mean as I think I am going to hit the same issue as I'm running a standard Sierra clutch cable and pedal to a type 9.

I've just put some brake pipe in the recess and all is great. Good enough for my Robin

If you look at the pedal there's an adjuster quadrant and pawl. The cable wraps around this in a groove. There's a number of different adjuster quadrants that have deeper or shallower grooves. Shallow groove=large radius=longer cable pull. Deep groove=shorter pull.

On some Fords,Diesel Escorts for sure, they kept the quadrant but lost the auto adjust pawl and fitted a long bolt and lock nut pushing on the quadrant.
