Engine swap? Volvo for V8?
coozer - 15/5/12 at 12:51 PM

How easy would it be to junk the RV8 and stick a 5 or 6 pot Volvo engine in its place?

I would love a straight 6 up front and the Volvo jobs seem to have more power than the v8.

The trans behind the V8 is a ZF 4 speeder all out of a Range Rover but found in all sorts of motors, Jags etc..

Any thoughts?

Really long engine/box combo, is the straight 6 cast iron too? might notably affect your polar moment.

The 6 has a cast iron block but it fits transverse in some volvo's and is quite compact.

No issues with weight, its an off roader and the front axle is way ahead of the motor

Heres a 6 in a 240 in place of the standard 4 pot...

Volvo whiteblocks (newer straight 4-5-6 pots) are all cast alloy engines. The terrible PRV6 was cast iron, but you really don't want that engine. I guess fitting it to the Range Rover box could be done using a sandwich plate. Going for a T5 engine would give you more power than a NA 6 pot.

Why not a BMW M50/52?

The diesel version was used in the RR as well, so that bellhousing might fit.

prv6 is alloy too...

for me it would be a piece of wee , since i have it in my workshop.....!!lol

keep it NA , it would be very simple .....

ahh , re read that .

early whiteblocks were mated to ZF boxes ......... later AW

204hp for 3 litre , but could also be 180hp with different cams .

they do have torque , but dont wake up till 4000rpm ......
