Painting a Pinto cam cover
david_l_perry - 30/10/12 at 03:24 PM

I spotted my Pinto cover was leaking at the oil cap filler tube (very slight break in the top filler tube/cover joint) nothing major but enough to warrant looking at

So I have just picked up an old replacement Pinto cam cover that is sound but needs repainting

I want to strip it down and then re-paint it (probably some garish red) along with the cam belt cover

Can I just use standard car primer / finish paints (Halfords standard stuff) or does it need to be anything specific for the heat...??

Dave

Standard paint is ok just make sure you clean all the oil off first

For a really nice look use crackle finish paint, easy to apply, and comes in bright red and black. IMHO Ray

When I painted mine I stuck it in the dishwasher to get it really clean, flatted it back and sprayed with three coats of smooth black hammerite. Three years on it still looks good another alternative would be to get it powder coated.

Cheers, Sean.
