Which diff oil
Nurburg2006 - 17/6/13 at 08:11 AM

Hello guys, which diff oil should i use in my mk2 escort diff 3:54? Cheers

Original spec was GL5 Hypoid Gear Oil EP90

Coma do a EP80W-90 GL-5 that fits the bill nicely but Carlube ep75w90 hypoid gear oil or equivalent Castrol or Halfords GL5 oils will do nicely

Is it just road use or track?? Don't use standard stuff on track its not up to it, I did a crown wheel in 1 race. If you want track stuff use redline 75-90, available from DT etc

I was wondering the same now that my axle is in.

What's the capacity? Will a quart be enough?

Yeah 1 bottle is enough, but buy 2 so you can top it up when the bearings start to leak seriously buy 2 just to keep it topped up

The oil capcity is 1.75 pints which is 1 litre as most places only sell 500ml containers this two bottles of any decent quality GL5 oil such as Comma, Carlube, Castrol or even Halfords.

When topping up the diff make sure the car is sitting level as overfilling will result in a leaks from the diff nose or halfshaft oil seals.
