Prop shaft chop???
SteveAdkins - 22/9/13 at 08:01 PM

Hi all,
Ive finally got round to doing some work on the project car today and i now have the engine block in on axle stands along with the gear box. I am already moving along nicely fitting the diff.

I thought I would bolt the prop shaft on to get a idea of looks and how much I need to cut it down by.

now the prop shaft as it sits at the moment is in two sections with a universal joint in the middle along with a support bearing, then another UJ on the back section where it bolts to the diff. I dont know if i really need this middle UJ with the support bearing. Could I not run it so the prop shaft comes out from the gearbox straight to the diff with one UJ on the rear section.

Is any of what I have said made any sense?

Thanks

Steve

What engine ?

If a bike engine you will need a split prop, car engine hence short prop required then a single piece is fine, it's all todo with the amount of flex, this thing will be travelling at 6000rpm when flat out, a long prop is unstable.
