Type9 clutch pivot pin?
adithorp - 22/10/14 at 10:33 PM

Does anybody know the length of the standard pivot pin in a standard type9 bell housing.

A mate is having trouble with his clutch. He didn't build the car so not sure whats been used originally and the trouble has only happened since he swapped from a 1.8 zetec to a 2lt Dunnel one. The clutch won't fully engage as the lever fouls the bell-housing first. The bearing looks like the thin one but a longer/modified pivot could be the issue.

edit... the problem is the arm hits the bellhousing before it has free play, so the clutch slips.

Would be easier to fit the reqd bearing
It would be hit and miss to get the fulcrum pin the correct length
The taller bearing should be a cct133
Saw them at about £20 on ebay

It appears to have the short bearing in now. The longer bearing would make the problem worse not better. I suspect a longer pivot has been fitted by previous owner which would cause symptoms now. Just need to know the standard ones length to confirm.

Hi, A longer bearing would make it better requiring less throw on the lever so the pressure plate would operate sooner, had is problem with my zetec to type 9 fitted cct133 bearing problem solved.
Hope this helps. Mike

Sorry, maybe my first post wasn't clear (editted now to clarify)...

The lever is currently hitting the bellhousing when the pedal is released... so there's no free play between bearing and cover... so the clutch slips.

I am currently having the same issue. So keen to see the solution

Aren't there different types of clutch arms too? Snapper Paul will know!

Yeah there are. The combinations of flywheel/clutch/release bearing/pivot gives a lot of possibilities. Just trying to get info so he'll be able to tell what is fitted. Then we can work out what to change. Pivot might be a red herring as another look at photos means we now think it might have the thicker 133 bearing. Pivot dimentions would still be helpful to know.
