nee to put a Bead on a 32mm aluminium pipe
shindha - 17/7/15 at 11:04 AM

Hi does anyone know where i can get this done in Birmingham or if any one can help, alternatively is it possible to do at home with some simple tools.

You can use a pair of old Mole-grips (or water-pump pliers as it's aluminium tube) and a small ball bearing to make an 'Oyster tool'. If the bead is just to stop a hose from sliding off, you can drill three/four holes and use pop rivets. Then clamp the hose over the top behind the rivet heads.

Or you can use something like Techno-weld and braze a ring onto the end of the pipe.

Someone made up a home made kit using an exhaust mount. I tried it and failed miserably so bought some premade joiners from ebay for a about £1 each. From ASH silicone hoses IIRC.

Search on here for 'Oyster bead'

I made up a tool to do this. Beading tool
Beading tool

Here is a picture of the tool. Made of some surplus bearings.

This was the result . hose_sensor
hose_sensor

Gives about a 2mm flare.

I've been searching that, they seem quite obscure now, b&q don't stock them anymore, and only seem to be available from the manufacturer (conex)

That was the one I tried to copy - made an absolute hash of it!

Same post is the one I made from an old cvh exhaust valve

You may be able to get a pair of Oyster pliers from here.
This is the bead it forms.

I'll happily bead it for you if you can cover the postage and get it to me (Kent), though it'll probably be the same sort of money to bead locally by the time you add up post and packaging two ways.

I've got some straight 32mm swaged joiners...

If all else fails we sell pipe in custom lengths with beads ready made, possibly not the cheapest, but the simplest method.

Thank you all, for the help, all sorted now, thanks Dave for the design of your tool.

You are very welcome. I had the steel in stock and it only took me an hour to design and knock it up.....
