Focus 1.6 flywheel for zetec/Type 9
ChazzyB - 21/1/16 at 01:38 PM

This is my first post on here, but am looking for a bit of guidance with a conversion I'm doing.

I know LOADs of people have done this, and there's plenty of information which I've been sifting through.

I'm putting the ST170 in my kit car (I'm ditching the 4AGE I was running) and am about to start doing all the mods to put it in.

Anyway, I know I'm supposed to get a 1.8 zetec flywheel from a mondeo mk1, however I'm having trouble finding one.

Will a mk1 focus 1.6 petrol manual flywheel work as I've seen a number of these available?

Then find a suitable clutch and pressure plate.

You need to be careful of the focus 1.6zetecs as I think these are all Zetec SE's and are totally different from the ST170 Zetec (badged Duratec???). Easy way to tell is the Zetec SE has the inlet/exhaust on the other side to the ST170. You are better looking for the late model Escort 1.6 if you need a 1.6 zetec flywheel.

1.8 zetec mk1 focus flywheel will be correct and probably the easiest to find, a 1.6/1.8 zetec escort flywheel will work but you probably won't find one anymore unless it's new, and you will need a 1.8 zetec mk1 mondeo clutch kit.
A capri long release bearing will be needed, have a search on here for the number.

^^ as above the 1.6 in the focus's are all zetec SE engines (aka: Sigma engines, also found in 1.25, 1.4, and 1.7 flavours)

a 1.8 flywheel should be pretty east to get, even if you need to go down to a scrapyard and pull it of yourself

some folk on here have been selling zetec E flywheels recently:

might have a 1.6 escort flywheel kicking around,... as in rusty somewhere,..

Depends where you are,. as it would need to be collected

Thanks for the super quick feedback. I managed to get a 1.8 zetec flywheel just by calling around some breakers. Most thought I wanted a DMF though.

The next thing is to get a clutch which appears to be the standard 1.8 mondeo clutch. I'm considering getting an uprated one such as this:

any thoughts or other recomendations?

I may get a cheapo one in the mean time to get things running and see how it fairs.

^^ don't get a clutch that's too cheap - stick to a good brand like LUK and you'll not go far wrong

(the cheap valeo one I put in the tin-top was a big mistake and that's with only 115hp...)
