Engine height

I have shortened the sump on my zetec and now Iam just onto making my engine mounts. My re-wored sump is now 150mm deep. How far below the bottom of the chassis is normal for the sump to be? It's on a Tiger Avon chassis.

Cheers
Mike

mines not an Avon - its a Haynes Roadster - its about 45 mm below the chassis rails and gives me 90 mm ground clearance. Ok as long as you don't try to go over those speed humps where you straddle the hump :-)

Make it as high as possible

As low as your wallet allows.
If too low, you may put a skid plate, but this will add weight.
There are several threads discussing this.
it also depends where your sump is located.
If at the wheel centerline, you may get away with lower...
if after, you must consider that the chassis is coming down after the wheels passing the bump, so a few mm more won´t hurt.
Another thing to consider is if you drive on roads with a little bit too much crown (Offroad?)

That's about right. I've run sump clearance down to as low as 65-75mm. in the past, but it's very marginal at that height.

Front of the sump is now 25mm below the bottom rail. At the moment I'm happy with this, although I have made height adjustable engine mounts

I might review my 'acceptable' 90mm sump clearance. Today at one location with two up managed to crash the sump into the roadway at a hump in the road. No damage but may have to review things - .... er .... wotsits ... !!!!!!

I put a skid plate under my sump, when I first had the car on the road this hit a cats eye under compression on a fast road
Lifted my ride height soon after!
And now I've raised my engine so my sumps now near enough level with the chassis.

Titanium skid plate.

I just love sparks. (I'm a welder)
