Duratec plumbing
tomduffield13 - 17/4/18 at 10:46 AM

After reading multiple threads on the issue, mostly contradicting.... I've just finished plumbing my duratec.... standard mechanical water pump, caterham parts stat, US Ranger Water outlet and rail. I'm after simplicity really.

It's plumbed as per this diagram... (hopefully embedding this image will work)

I'm lost in diagrams all showing different solutions to the same problem, therefore anyone foresee any issues with this before I carry on?

Do I need a slight restrictor in the bypass to the header, just north of the tee to the back of the ranger outlet to try and force the loop?

Most people with Duratec stick with the Ford arrangement because any other way doesn't seem to work as well.

Thanks VeeTwin, isn’t that effectively what I’ve got, just drawn slightly differently...

The bypass just doesn’t go through the original unit on the rear...

Is this how Caterham’s are plumbed... they use a similar outlet rather than the original.

Any locations for diagrams in build manuals anywhere?

Not quite, there are three connections at the back of the head, one to bypass, one to rad top, one to header.

You are teeing in the bypass to the header.

Ford have the bypass independent of any other connections.

Only way to find out is try it, but if there's no flow through the bypass the stat doesn't open.

What if I kept the bypass independent and Tee off the rail to the header... that would ensure bypass flow.

Either way, you’re right, try it and see may be the best solution.
