Timing Light
v8james - 10/7/19 at 06:31 PM

I was going to try and check the ignition timing on my silver top Zetec as I don't think the EDIS is seeing the SAW from Megasquirt.
I hooked up my (old) timing light to No.1 lead but no flashie so thought it was bust, I got a loan of my friends timing light and still no flashie???

Im I missing something, are both light bust or are the leads that heavily shielded ?
I don't have another petrol car to test them on (bloody diesels)

Got a petrol lawn mower you can test the lights with?

IF fitted with a coilpack, then plug leads fire negative or possitive to the relevant spark plug, depending which end of the coil pack each lead is connected to. Also, the strobe will flash twice as fast as crank speed as one flash will be on fire stroke the other will be wasted, hence wasted spark ignition. (i.e. if your strobe gives rpm read out then, if wasted spark it might say 1600rpm, when its really only 800rpm)
