motherboard failure?

Is my m/b goosed? home PC Dell Vostro - 2 months out of warranty

when I press the power button I see it finds the graphics card. I hear 1 bleep, it goes to the screen with DELL on it, where it says press f2 for set up and ....... nothing.

doesn't respond to Ctrl/Alt/Del
cant get into the bios
I have reset the CMOS
Everything bar the keyboard is unplugged
doesn't matter if the HD is connect or not

If it has gone west - can I fit say a gigabyte m/b to the dell case?

Cheers

Mark

yep post is mobo only so if you can't get into bios then yep mobo goosed. I've heard of psu's knacking mobos on those too so becarefull if replacing the mobo only.

Ring up dell as a business user and kick off.

It is possible to fit another mobo in but its not straightforward as the plugs for leds & switchs are different.

Enjoy....

Cheers

What happens if you press f2? does it go into bios? Dells are notorious for the bios battery dieing and then it looses the time and settings so needs you to press F2 to set up and usually F1 will let you continue.

Thank you my IT guru friend

So it could be the PSU that's sha**ed and it's taken the mobo with it?

Will dell respond to that sort of pressure?

Also if I just put this HD into another machine will it just work out that it's got new hardware and carry on? (vista business)

Cheers

woo hoo it's fixed

I had to remove the CMOS battery and remove the power cord - only then reset the CMOS and NVRAM with the jumpers

Strange the dell manual doesn't mention this - it's almost as if they want you to buy another PC if it does this.

Well yeah, why fix it for free or even pay them £100 to repair it when they can charge you £300+ for a new one? Mind you being 2 months out of warranty (I take it twas 1 year) I'd be kicking off.
