sierra steering rack length?
Hi everyone.
Progress is slow on my build, but it IS progressing!!
I recently stripped the steering rack and gave the insides to my Dad to shorten - no probs.
I know how long it will be when I get it back, but failed to note what it WAS.
So I have no idea by how much I need to shorten the ally casing
Doh!
So my questions are
1. What is the length of the unmodified sierra rack? (joint to joint, just the rack part.. whatever  ) or
2. Any advice on establishing a suitable length of the ally casing? I'm sure it is not "critical" but should be close...

Surely you shorten the alloy housing the same dimension you shorten the rack.

You need to shorten the rack so the bolt holes on the rack line up with the bolt holes in your chassis.

Yup, you are exactly right
But I gave Dad a length to make it end up as and not a direction to shorten it by "x" amount.
I never bothered to note what it was originally, so I don't know by how much he has shortened it... so I don't know how much to shorten
the ally bit..

The bolt holes on the chassis have not yet been made, so again, I can't calculate it from there....
