Clio ECU Connector cage

Hi folks, you're my last hope before it's hello Mr Angle Grinder! Has anyone ever had to remove the steel cage around the ECU connector on a 16v clio II 1.2? Bl00dy thing's built like a tank, I've no idea what function it actually serves.

Cheers in advance!

There is a toothed wheel you have to rotate at the back which slowly releases the locking bolt. Or if its jammed use a slide hammer.

When its off check the wirings as it is almost certain the cage will have rubbed on the main ecu harness.

Many thanks for your help, will try that tonight. Is it worth removing it altogether? Have you any idea what its function is?

If you do get it off thats the easy bit. Getting it backs the hard bit.

I've left a few off.
