Adding seater to a van

I need to buy a small van for the wife, but we have 2 kids and see needs to be able to transport them etc.

If we got a 2 seater van, what are the rules and reg about putting a seat into the rear. Do seats need a window next to them, so police etc can see in.

Just can not find any info on google!!!!

Don't think you need a window, but I suspect VOSA may need to have a look, and the insurance company will be pretty excited. After all the regs on mounting seats and seatbelts are pretty strict.
There are a few van-derived cars about, that would be an easier route? And use privacy glass in the back?

I am sure there would be loads of reasons why you can't.

There are plenty of cars and people carriers that can be just as good as a van.

And you won't have to pay VAT !

get a convertion for the camper so a bolt in back seat which can be removed. if you remove it, it just leaves the bolt holes. get it done professinally though as its not that much and will be ok for insurance then.

Also just remove it for MOT saves them kicking off about non standard equip.

i built a camper a few years ago and they spent 1 hour on the back seats checking them out just cos they had been added after manufacturing.

took 2 mins to un bolt lol

Thanks
