What large 7 car should I buy

Hi guys,

Got £4-4.5k to buy a seven replica asap. Only issue is I am a big fella, ex rugby player (loose head prop until I broke my neck...) and a little chunky! (Big arse and thighs, so worried about getting between the cabin and transmission tunnel)

Going to try a 2B and an MK this week for size but I was wondering if anyone can give me some advice on which kits that are in this range should I be considering?

Thanks in advance.

PS - If anyone knows of any suitable cars for sale please let me know......!

I understand the luego brand makes slightly larger cars, a lot of v6's get thrown in them as they have a bit more room (at least from what I've read)

There is a section dedicated to them on the site click on the FORUM bit of

LocstBuilders >> Forum >> Interior & Styling etc above and navigate to it, seems a pretty active owners club etc.

seeing where you live I think Raw would be a good way to go, I know Martin very well and seen 1st hand what they do, they did a lot of work for me a couple of years age when Mel was there....so give them a try.........

I would also suggest not using the standard fibreglass seats, but make your own custom foam one and cover with whatever you want. Should be able to fit in anything. Kind of depends on how big your feet are really.

Not sure you'll find one for that money, but Quantum Xtremes have plenty of room without being on the epic scale of a Viento. I'm tall and wide and fit with ease.

How big actualy are you? (if it's not a rude question! ) reason I ask is that with the right seat it's amazing what you can fit in - no you're probably never going to fit in an original sized Caterham but neither can most normal sized people

6ft, 18.5 stone, 48" chest, 42" waist, big thighs and upper body.

Before anyone asks I am dieting. I do 4 cardio sessions a week, ride 50 miles a week on a mountain bike etc. fit but just big and still eat cr4p.

Miles,

I have inches more than that in all them, I think I fit in mk indy ok.

Big issues are get the right seat, sit low. Big feet are more of an issue. My 11s need slim trainers to fit ok.

Thanks guys, really appreciate your help.

Seen a MK for sale on the for sale forum with a Triumph Bike engine owned by Pheonix70. Looks nice but a little more than I ideally wanted to spend.

I have size 11.5 G fitting shoes.... eek! Happy to wear some race shoes / puma mostro's which is what i have worn when driving on track before.

I'm 6'2", and broad,size 11s but not that heavy.

I fit in my Indy really well.

Seats make a big difference.

Best bet is have a sit in some cars.

thanks mate, need to get in some for sure but not many for sale near me. Just wanted to narrow some off the list before I look.

What are RH 2B's / S7's or Tiger's like for size, any ideas?

Hello Miles.
The Robin Hood 2b is a bit bigger than the rest of the 7 type kit car out there apart from the Luego Viento which is massive. The 2b would suit your budget better as well.
I know of a 2b for sale at the moment in Peterborough for £3100

6ft 4inches, 20stone plus, (but im not saying how big the + is), size 12 / 13 feet due to width ( G or H I believe), 46" chest, 40 - 42" waist.

Luego Viento all the way.

Beware of the Goldfish in the tulip mines. The ONLY defence against them is smoking peanut butter sandwiches.

I would agree with JGG (which is not surprising as I am currently building a Viento). I did try some others such as the 2B but it felt as though I was sitting on them rather than in them (I'm 6'2".

A new kit would be outside of your price range, plus I'm not sure that they are still for sale. However, built and part built ones occasionally come up for sale for surprisingly little money given what they cost to build from new

Just to give an idea of the difference in size.

Sitting in it rather than on it is why I went for the Xtreme. In all the others I tried I was looking through the windscreen rail...

I'm a similar size and fit in my s7 fine.

Also I had the opportunity to go in two different westfielda of the same spec, one I fitted for, the other I couldn't get in. All down to seat choice!!

cheers guys. I think seat choice will be a basic pad in whatever I go for to give me maximum space. Is the cockpit in the S7 bigger than the 2B do you know?

Another Q, do you think and Indy will be in my price range?

sorry, also do you think the 'sitting on rather than in' feeling be beaten with a low slung pad?

Not tried a 2b so can't say on that. I have a carbon fibre bucket that will be floor mounted and I certainly feel like I am sat in it! A floor mounted padded seat would be the same in my opinion.

I have 2 seat base pads for mine. A high up, comfy, one for everyday use and a thin, sit low down in, one for more performance use. Can't go far with that though. These cars and my backside like smooth roads which are rare round here.
