Weber alpha mapping software

Does anyone have Weber Alpha mapping software or possibly Gems .
I have just fitted a raceline head and cams to my 2ltr zetec and it now seems slightly over advanced on the Alpha.
I also have the use of a Gems ecu if that would be easier to map.

A friend of mine had a Weber Alpha kit and he told me that the software is not freely available like other companies. I believe they like their dealers to be the only ones who can tune them.

Hopefully somebody will be along shortly to prove me wrong!

Weber Alpha software is only supposed to be available at their official agents.
There might be somebody about who's managed to 'source' it though ?
Although when i researched this a few years back i couldn't find anyone.

Some of the very early Weber Alpha ignition only ECU's can't be mapped even by the agents
So be wary of this if buying secondhand units.

Had a couple of Weber Alpha ECU's in the past. Reliable robust units but accessing the map was always an issue, that is why I have an MBE now.

When I first used Weber Alpha I was lucky, there was an agent about 15 miles away who was reasonably priced and knew his stuff. Sure he told me the mapping kit was leased from Weber which cost him quite a tidy sum, eventually he gave up on Weber.

The early Alpha ECU I had used an EPROM that had to be burned in another piece of kit and then fitted into the ECU. The chap that bought that ECU from me discovered that no agent appeared to have the kit to do that any longer (that was in 2005), luckily the map was a good one. The later Alpha ECU connected to a PC with a more conventional cable but you still needed the Weber supplied hardware/software to access the map.

With so many excellent alternatives available on the market buying a Weber ECU is just plain daft, if you just happen to have one keep your fingers crossed Weber will still support the agents with the necessary hardware/software.

Getting the software is close to impossible, finding a company that has it and charges a sensible price is hard work.

If it is just that the timing is slightly advanced can you take a more basic approach and move the VR sensor back or rotate the trigger wheel forward? While not giving you the optimum map through out it will stop you being too advanced and damaging the engine and cost nothing.

On my first Weber Alpha the loom (Weber supplied) had 2 wires that were left unterminated near the coil pack. Earth the blue/green cable and you retard by 2 degrees, earth the blue/red cable and you retard by 4 degrees. Earth both and you retard by 6 degrees.

Easier than moving the trigger wheel etc and easilly reversed.

I believe this could be what you need. Sorry but I have never actually used it..

If you are stuck, speak to weber alpha, they can put a new map on for £100. Believe we might have similar engines, what cam do you have in yours?

Hi Femi
Spoken to weber alpha and they no longer have the necessary parts to map the ecu.

The cams are rl200 from raceline.

Exactly the same setup. I had the impression they kept the map. The map was developed on my engine by previous owner

This is what webcon said Femi

"Unfortunately, whilst the software is still available for this system, the comms module has
not been made for some years so we will not be able to supply you with the means to calibrate
your system. "

Just found this link to the software. I know it won't help much in this case due to the older ECU but useful for other users.

I would be interested in hearing from anyone who can send me a copy of their chip, I am in the process of collecting strategies as no-one seems to know much about these. I am very interested in anyone running one on 6,8 or 12 cylinders and also any forced induction cars.

Cheers

It is this ECU I have:

But interested in firmware from all 'chipped' versions of the ECU.

I had one of those ECU's in the 90's. To remap it you needed a special Weber box that the EPROM from the unit was fitted into and the Special Weber box then plugged into the car loom. If changes were needed a new EPROM would be "burned" in the Weber box, fitted into the ECU which would then be fitted back into the car. What a faff, could not believe what I was watching.

At the time there were 3 specialists local to me who could tune them but in all honesty once it was mapped it was never touched.

When I swapped to the Zetec I wanted to keep the Alpha ECU since it had proved to be reliable but was persuaded it was cheaper to replace it with another brand that was easier to map. Bought an MBE, just as reliable but more people can access them should it be needed.

Sold the Alpha to a mate. Worked perfectly for several years but after an engine rebuild and cam change he decided to get the map checked. Could not find a local agent and eventually Weber confirmed it was no longer supported. Fortunately for him the map was fine when it was checked.

They are very old now and well outdated. Hardly worth bothering trying to source software or hardware even if it was available.

Hi Paul, I am not trying to source software I am writing mapping definition files for it.

I have found both the ignition and fuel maps and have the ability to change them with TunerPro, I have also found the cold start map and a few others I am not 100% sure of.

Next step is to decompile the software, but I don't want to do this until I Know I have the latest version of the firmware.

I have 2 of these ECU's and want to reuse them

i owned 3 cars with webcon alpha ingition management....ALL 3 had problems:

even the kit was bought for a specific engine it looked like there was only a base-mapping...all 3 engines had been very low in power.

webcon-service was very unfriendly and arrogant.

finally i found a guy over here in germany who at least could get to certain parameters (even he didnt had the programming software)

i think those ECU“s are italian origin:

Had the same for my freshly built 225hp C20XE setup and ended up at Northampton Motorsport who 'burnt' the map onto a new EPROM as mentioned above. It cost me around £550 all in and ran fan till i wanted to upgrade again by which time i bought a brand new Emerald.
