Other drivers reactions to your kit car.
After a 250mile round trip in the 7 today, going to and from Donnington (mostly on the m6) I kept myself amused by watching other drivers
reactions....
I had a massive grin on for most of the journey purely because of the amount of people waving, smiling, taking pictures etc- and it wasn't just
kids!
It got me thinking that there must be a fair few funny stories of peoples reactions to you in your kit.
I thought it would be a good place to share some.... It is what this type of car is all about after all!

Coming back from Procomp a year or so back I had a guy egg me on to race him in his Focus ST.
The problem was that we were already doing 70mph (or there abouts!) and therefore my car had little guts left to race something with such long legs. I
dropped it down a gear to try and keep up but was utterly smoked by him!!
He still slowed up and gave me a thumbs up for trying before booting off again!
Track days ARE the best thing since sliced bread, until I get a supercharger that is!

When I'm in my tintop I'll always wave or flash at a 7, even though I know I probably just look like a right weirdo!!

just done 2500 miles in my MNR around the Alps, Monaco, San Remo, Stelvios Pass and Lake Annecy, I thought the car used to get a lot of attention at
home but you've seen nothing until you've taken a kitcar into Europe,
1 guy asked me to get out the car as he didn't want me in the picture!!
Another asked if his daughter could have her picture taken in the car, When i said yes he removed the childseat from his Picasso and plopped it in
before perching her on for a photo!

had an oil hose blow whilst out on a drive near Le Mans....big cloud of white steam out the bonnet.
Owner of a local hotel came out and told us to wheel it into his courtyard, and provided umpteen paper towels to clean up.
20 minutes later, with hose chopped and reattached, big cheer from about 20 people on the hotel deck as the car sprang into life....

plus driving to Stoneleigh with a seven and another Fury about 10 years ago, we stopped off at Peartree services for a coffee break.
Came back to find the cars surrounded by about 2 coach loads of tourists taking pictures.... took a few ourselves....still available here...

Some great pictures there, lost of engine innovation going around that time - Stuart Taylo v4 Pan European, mental Cyclone v8 (2 x Yamaha 1000 Exups
IIRC), loved the twin engine Z100 (was this the 2wd or 4wd version ?) and one of the first turbo hyabussas.

Got a big grin and a smile from a pair of coppers who passed me on the M11 in their patrol car.
I had No Tax, No Number plates, No windscreen, No Wipers, No heater, No washers.
Even though I was running in a new engine (50mph), I just had a huge grin on my face.
They didnt even pull me over.
I was going to Chelmsford for my 1st of 3 SVA's.
Mirrors failed the first time, and Back to front brake ballance both times!
Final 3rd visit was a pass!
Even bigger grin on the way home.

Had a women in a car on the motorway in Belgium try and give my passenger her phone number ..at 80mph. And we where both wearing crash helmets !

I don't think I ever had anything less than a great reaction from other road users when I had my Indy. I think it's the relative rarity
on the road, but familiar enough because the shape is so old. They are also very unpretentious little cars, unlike supercars which I have seen get
very mixed reactions.

haha i had exactly the same thing with a focus st but i totally smoked him lol :-) 300bhp is just about enough to see most things off :-) think
there is a video of it from the focus passenger floating round on youtube somewhere.

It's not all good.... when I tow my car around to events you always get loads of people on the motorway in lane 2 pulling alongside the trailer
for an extended look only to block me in so I cant move out to overtake.
On the whole though its nice when people give a good reaction, Caterham owners usually just snear though.

I wasn't quite prepared for the reactions you get, initially. Lots of waves, kids stood on the roadside clapping, I've had a lorry driver
giving the "rock horns", and of course people looking at it whenever you park.
Makes me worry because my default driving face is a cross between a grimace and a confused orangutang (according to the missus)...must try to smile
more or they'll all think I'm a miserable git

Did a sprint to work one sunny day and got the mummy frown and tut tut tut as she fought up with me at a busy roundabout, Mande me laugh as I'm
