Way off topic...

Hi Everyone,

I have an off-licence and have recently changed the name to 'Liquor Hole'.

It's a little close to the mark and I was wondering if anyone can advise me whether I could get into trouble if anyone takes offence to the name and were to inform the council or some other authority.

On the same subject I am continuing to trade under my original business name that is on the chequebook and all other paperwork, receipts etc. Only the sign on the outside of the shop is different. Is this something that is likely to be a problem in a legal sense?

Thanks in advance for any help.

As with anything to do with the general public, it only needs one person to contact the council and they'll be on you
Just act dumb if they contact you
A local dog groomer to me is called doggy style and most just smile
Yours is a bit nearer the mark though 😀

What's off topic? You made the topic!

If you are in doubt then don't do it. Pick another name and then you won't be waiting for a complaint that will cost you money to re-name.

In Portsmouth they have Fawcett Road.

On that road there's a pub that's called the Fawcett Inn. They sell Fawcett Inn Cider.

Should be ok!

if you wanted to soften the impact but still retain the innuendo you could just call it "The Liquor Hole"

There is a fishing tackle shop in Dunfermline called "Master Baitz"
They did get a little bit of comment from the usual suspects - but this just played into their hands (sorry).
Ended up as good publicity!

don't write OT on a new thread title, you're creating the topic, everything you write is very much ON topic!

As above, you want someone to complain. If it goes viral then you could be quids in.
It might even be worth getting a mate to complain.

You should probably notify HMRC and your bank that you are now XYZ company or Dave Hornet trading as Liquor Hole.
It could cause problems if you receive cheques, invoices etc. referring to Liquor Hole.
HTH.

A Northampton Home furnishings shop (called Sofa King) was stopped from using an advertising campaign of just 4 words - (their name and) Low Prices.

Edit bit, I thought it was 3 words, then I remembered it was actually 4.

I like a good cheeky-chuckle, but I think that one is just plain vulgar.

Can't see the licensing board liking to either...

Thanks for all the replies. The reason I posted was because I know I can count on the guys here to represent most views. Pewe thanks for the input regarding legal...

Oh and sorry for starting the thread 'way off topic'. Seems as though this was more offensive than the name! I meant it was way off the topic of building cars but I'll know for next time.

I'll go with the name and see what happens. It did indeed get picked up by a local Facebook site because someone took a photo of it and posted it on there. It has 80+ 'likes' and all positive comments so I guess it has done what I wanted, which is to increase interest in the shop.

Once again thanks for all the views expressed.
