Registration Checklist..
Hi all,
Having just passed IVA, I am currently trying to get the documentation together to register the car. I am going for an age related plate so I have the
following to send..
V55/5
V621
Drivers licence
Cheque for 126.50 for 6 months tax
Cheque for £55 for first reg fee
Do I need to send the V5 for the donor MX5 and various build photos like I did for IVA - if not can anyone spot anything else I need to send?

They'll want your donor v5 and reciepts for major parts, kit, etc and insurance cert'
There should be a list of what you should send on on the front page of the V55/5 (from memory)

The one that is worrying me is "Certificate of Newness", I shouldn't need one but lots of people seem to have been asked for them
when not going for new registrations.
Edit to add: https://www.gov.uk/vehicle-registration/kitconverted-vehicles says you need a V627/1

Not sure that's the case to be honest. I passed IVA last year and I'm sure I had to send a copy of my insurance certificate.

Interesting wording on the gov site as it could be read as needing a certificate, or if in NI a cover note will suffice.. I'll send one just in
case.

Out of interest, why did you send in V55/5 when V55/4 is the one that mentions kit cars?

Thanks for all the replies!!
V55/5 is, I belive, for Q and age related and V55/4 is for new reg's (amogst other things of course!)
Sorry I did mean V627/1!!
So far then I have...
V55/5
V627/1
Donor MX5 V5
Cover note on chassis number
Cheque for Tax
Cheque for reg fee
Receipts from Westfield.
Donor car was given to me, do I need to supply a receipt for that and strip down/build photos?

Interesting, as I was under the impression that V55/5 was for Q plates and V55/4 for age related and new reg.
Can anyone clarify this?

This is the exact list taken from my covering letter to DVLA based on an age related plate for last year.
V55/5
Donor V5
V627/1 built up inspection report
Original invoices for major components
Original IVA certificate
Certificate of Insurance
ID Documents (Photocopy of driving license, Photo card and council tax bill)
Cheque for first registration fee
Cheque for 6Mths tax
CD containing evidence of self build

This what it says for V55/5
"You should use the V55/5 to register a used vehicle (for example, imported vehicles that have
been registered before, rebuilds and so on.)"
A newly finished kit car with donor parts from an earlier vehicle, is not registering a used vehicle (such as imported). Neither is it a rebuild - if
that were the case it would retain the original number plate.
This is what it says for V55/4
"You should use the V55/4 to register a new vehicle, (for example, imported vehicles that have never
been permanently registered before, kit cars and so on)".
Surely an (age related) kit car is still new in the sense it requires an IVA test and will be assigned a new (age related) plate. And, after all, it
does specifically mention kit cars.

I suspect that either form will work for registration, but I have a theory that those applying on V55/5 are registered with a 'used'
vehicle and will require an MOT after 1 year and those applying with V55/4 are registered with a 'new' vehicle and will have 3 years grace
before an MOT is due.
Happy to hear from anyone who has found otherwise.

Regarding a 1 or 3 year period for MOT after an IVA test.
This relates to a car with new chassis but single donor parts with fresh IVA and applying for age related plates.
I've done some phoning around and this is what happened
Phoned DVSA to be told its nothing to do with them and to phone DVLA
Phoned DVLA to be told that DVSA decide on MOT policy
Phoned DVSA to have it confirmed that the new reg car will not need an MOT for 3 years, but on questioning admitted that DVLA have the last say and
that sometimes they ask for 1 year, but they had no idea why!. They suggested I ring DVLA again.
Rang DVLA again and spoke to someone who told me that they didn't know the answer, but would find out - followed by a 5 minute silence. They had
spoken to a manager who's advice was "if the owner is in doubt then get an MOT and send it in". I told her this was rubbish and did
she have a copy of the guidelines (no). I then requested a call back from a senior person.
One hour later Senior Manager Lee Davis, in Dept '1st Reg no.3', rings back to confirm that it should be 3 years to first MOT, not 1 year
and anyone who has been told they have to MOT their car after 1 year should e mail to KAR@DVLA.gsi.gov.uk and title the e mail 'IVA MOT

I think....
Due to all the hassle you all go through to get a SVA
I think 3 years before first MOT is a good enough prize.
I also think this information should be stickied somewhere.
