Kit Registered as donor

A car I like is registered as the donor on the V5 and has the donor VIN number attached to the bulkhead (which is a reliant scimitar). The car is a 7 style car (procomp)

I only know about the modern rules about IVA and getting an age related plate or Q plate, I didn't think a kit car could be registered as the donor but the seller said because it used major parts from the donor it was fine to take its reg due to a points system.

Is this car legit then or does it need IVA'ing?
Surely an ANPR camera would see its not a Reliant?

Thanks

It needs an IVA, it's illegal as it is.

It may have been overlooked on the system for now, but all it needs is a quick look over by plod and you'd be without a road car.

There was an amnesty a while back for cars registered as donors
If this is still carrying the donor VIN & reg then it needs IVA
You may be able to use it as parts for a new kit build as it will just be a Scimitar in the eyes of DVLA
Worse case scenario is that you get a Q

Not entirely sure, but the kit was manufactured after the SVA came into effect so late 90's early 2000's.

I'm not going to bother with it if its not registered properly.

If it is post SVA introduction then it definitely isn't registered correctly. There are some Scimitar based cars that don't need an IVA but they do still need an inspection and the registration is still updated to reflect the new car.

I'd say try and get it cheap based on the cost of the IVA and proper registration, but I do know someone on here tried that and the seller was less than polite. I think it was a Dutton...

This is the car in question.
http://www.locostbuilders.co.uk/forum/34/viewthread.php?tid=197115

I thought it was a track only car but the seller said it was road legal. Its not worth paying that much then having to put it through IVA.
I'm going to look at some correctly registered cars now, got an MK Indy, formula 27, Luego Locost and Striker to think about at the moment.

this car is a procomp spaceframe seven...and the V5c / ID is from a scimitar.

there is no relation between a scimitar and this style / design of car.
there is even not one single bolt from a scimitar on this car.
so the story from the seller about "still registered on donor" is a lie from start to finish and deliberately misleading.

its a procomp seven, where somebody used a v5c from a srapped scimitar, for drving around on the roads.

its like you run your daily mondeo with a vw-passat v5c

this car is definately incorrectly registered, illegal and it will need IVA, resultiung in a Q-plate.

the car has some good features, but conditionwise not the nicest.

so the price is a bit steep, imo.

Thanks, I didn't buy it in the end after I read the rules on registering a kit car properly.
I didn't mind the cosmetic imperfections, but getting it through the IVA would be a lot of work.

The seller seemed genuine, not sure if he honestly believed it was road legal or was trying to be misleading.
He did say something about a points system because it used so many parts from the donor it could use its registration and that's how it worked prior to SVA and IVA.

Ended up with a correctly registered Rover VVC Formula 27 in good condition, a bit slower but still fun for me (and cheaper).

as said, the procomp car did NOT use any of the parts from a scimitar.
at least it can be said that there isnt any sevenish car in the market which uses anything from a scimitar!!!

surplus the car was built, around 2000, means after SVA was estsablished.

all in all a big lie!!!

so why this seller should be called genuine?

i cannot believe how people try to sell their cars creating a false story around it.
