One More Win 10 Gremlin!!!!

Having reluctantly taken on Windows 10 as my OS, I have become slightly more at ease with its general use, and pecularities.

Now, following some kind of uninvited update, I have baffling problems with this updated version. After starting up, and reaching the usual Windows 10 display, the start-up pop-up no longer appears. If I try to use Internet Explorer, from the "e" on the lower button bar, I get a "Critical Error" message, which won't disappear unless I click on the "Start again" button. Which starts off the whole cycle again. Not just baffling, but b****y infuriating as well.

Anybody else had this experience, and if so, how did you fix it?

I'm not a W10 user, but Internet Explorer did update itself the other day - now version 11 I think.

It could be that you need to update IE to the current version to overcome your issues?

ETA...Just checked and it is IE v11 on my work laptop. Seems to work OK and doesn't throw up any error messages so far.

Internet explorer isnt in 10
You may need to reassign the short cut to 'edge' which is the new windows browser.

Internet Explorer is in W10!

You need to open Edge (the 'new' browser) and select "..." where it gives you the option to "Open with Internet Explorer".

Then you can pin IE to the Taskbar.

Yeap, but Edge is faster than IE

I only use IE to access our SAGE ERP1000 system.

Otherwise I'm a Chrome convert

ETA...for some reason Chrome won't run SAGE ERP1000.

And significantly less compatible with lots of websites (in my experience). I even have some banking websites that specifically state 'no Edge'.

i had a similar problem when i updated.
got the invite to update, definitely wanted it, didn't mind win 8.1, but prefered the look of 10, so updated. as the pc started, cortana worked a bit on and off, then the task bar and start button stopped working as did the rest of the task bar, then error messages that couldn't be cleared, or worked around.
couldn't see if auto updates were on, even if they were on, couldn't be sure they would actually download. ended up leaving the laptop on a few days, and it eventually sorted itself out. the whole process was guff, but working great now

download chrome, its better anyways
future updates in the next few days will fix any issues anyway
