Replacing bolts

Hi all,

Got to replace the boot on the rear strut of my wife's polo. VW reckon all nuts and bolts need replacing each time they're disturbed.

I can't imagine a garage doing this, would a clean up and some loctite be sufficient? I don't even think the nuts are nylon either....

the gas struts that I have used always have a little tab on the cup, pull that and they pull off the ball. no nuts disturbed.
or is it a suspension strut?

VW bolts come with a pre-applied amount of blue threadlock, I suspect that is what you're missing out on. I'd suggest your clean and loctite should be fine.

When I did the suspension on my Toledo, I did notice that the torque settings in the manual were surprisingly low, especially compared to some other cars. I guess they're relying on threadlock to keep things together? Although it does make working on VAG cars really easy!!

The standard bolts will be "Patchlok" they come little patch of thread locking compound on them when new.
