Vdo vision rev counter

I have just converted from a cvh to k series but now the rev counter does not work it used to get its signal from the coil but now is from the ECU is this why it does not work, can I do anything to make it work.

I will be fitting the same rev counter soon to my Striker (Xflow with Megajolt ECU).
I'm hoping this instruction sheet will help...

I was unable to get my VDO rev counter to work when driven from the ECU (Megasquirt).


I used this method to drive it directly from the coil. Take a feed from SparkA and SparkB:

Spoken to vdo, very helpful.
They said to fit a pull up resister of one kilo ohm between live a the signal wire because due to the ECU providing the signal the output is only 5volts not enough to operate the rev counter my question is before I fit the resistor do I also need to fit a diode in the signal wire to protect my ECU from the higher voltage.
