Iva secondhand locost

Hi all
Sorry for the same old question.

I am going to start building/ rebuilding a locost project I bought off ebay 2 years ago. ihave build 2 kitcars before and SVA'd 1 with no problems, the other was a track car.
Can someone just confirm that I can IVA it by showing pics of the strip and rebuild and prove of car and engine purchase plus obviously bills for all the other parts I might need.
I have the latest IVA down load and know about getting a VIN number from the DVLA.

Just getting the jitters and need re-assuring and any other helpful info would be great.

Thanks Mike Bentley

Yes! Microsoft Word can provide receipts for some parts as well.

No pics are required for IVA, they just assist with showing/reassuring tester of areas out of view etc. Only documentary evidence for IVA is Engine age - this can be proven by using donor V5 - but i have read of testers requiring more (such as headed letter from manufacturer)
Both pics and receipts are only really needed/helpfull for DVLA registration if using a donor to prove where parts have come from. But if you are only after a Q then shouldnt be needed at all.

On a similar note.

Would you be able to get an age related plate if the chassis, engine and major parts are all new from an older year (for example 2005) but not from one car?

Say for example I brought a track only car that was built in 2005 from mainly new bits and you could prove it by contacting ford and other manufacturers. Would you be able to get it onto an 05 / 55 plate instead of Q?

The moment you use a 2nd hand monocoque chassis you end up on a Q. The only way a reg can be retained is if chassis can be proved as new (registering as a 'rebuilt' vehicle). If the chassis is new but not same as original (ie a kit chassis) the registering type becomes a 'kit built'.

again, nope. but if over 10 yr, (and you can prove it) no IVA needed. but still Q

Thanks guys
I am feeling more confident now.
Just wanted grelin1234 to expand on his last post of
"If over 10 years old no IVA, but still a Q"

If this all goes well I might start looking at other unfinished projects, there are some good looking ones out there (although pics and descriptions can be misleading) But I think if one made a business out of it, it might be a different story with the DVLA.

Can you point me in the direction on this 10 year rule.

I may be looking at a car that was built over 10 years ago from new parts.

I would really like to get it on an age related plate though.

How was this theory arrived at? I started my MK build in 2000 (rolling chassis and running gear) and eventually
IVA'd in 2013. I had all the receipts from 13 years prior to the test.

I suspect it means complete 10 years ago (and actually aimed at imported vehicles) , else I agree is a very big loophole.

item 2 from
https://www.gov.uk/vehicle-approval/exemptions-from-vehicle-approval

quote:

light goods vehicles (3,500kg maximum weight or less) over 10 years old
cars and minibuses with 8 passenger seats or less (not including the driver) over 10 years old

edit added line relevant to cars.

WOW.

So there is a benefit to taking over 10 years to build a car!!

Just buy a chassis, sit it in the garage for 10 years and then get a q plate stuck on it!!!

having read some more on the dvla side of registering, apparently Q always needs iva, (because its indeterminate age)
however it seems if you can <prove> the age of the car you could get age related, without iva.
but what they might take as proof will be open to interpretation. (for imported cars an old registration/ de-registration form (ie 10 yr old bongo from japan))

Well i need to do lots of digging and phoning around next month to see what info I can get on the car in looking at.

Its in real middle ground.

Its a motorsport shell Escort RS Cosworth. I dont know when the chassis was purchased but it will have a factory VIN that I can contact Ford with.

I also dont know where the running gear is sourced from, but it is sierra cosworth. It may all be from one source or many. New or old.
