BMW 1.8i Z4 engine type?
Ok I give up I've tried Googling for 20 minutes to no avail.
Anyone know what engine type (ie BMW series no B48 etc) is fitted to the current, 2016, BMW Z4 1.8i?

It would be the older N20B20

It should be possible to tune an extra 90 hp out of that.

May be worth asking a BMW dealer or specialist as they tend to know these things.
May we know what you want to do with it - tuning, replacement etc?

Thanks Etoirre - dunno how I missed that info! Unfortunately it looks as if the 1.8i engine has low compression pistons so I'm not sure I can
get the power increase I was wanting without rebuilding a new engine - which even I aint daft enough to do.
Hi Nick, her indoors bought a new Z4 1.8i at a bargain price and even got £6k for her 11 year old MX5 as well!! However although more powerful than
the MX5 its a bit gutless and we wish we had bought the 2.0 or 2.8i but without paying all the extra dosh 
I'm quite relaxed about invalidating warranties as we usually buy new and retain for ten tears or so making,in the long term, warranty fairly
irrelevant.

OK - makes sense!
My Dad had a 328i some years ago (1997 IIRC) and it was quite a smooth and rapid car. I'd imagine a 1.8L 4 cylinder can feel like it needs a
little more grunt. Not sure a 6 cylider would go into the 4 cylinder engine bay so tuning what you have may be the better option.

But there are several companies that can bring the 18i to 20i with either a plugin box or a rewrite of the ecu.
Which should make the Z4 move swiftish.
