Astra GTE digi dash

Has anyone got any experience fitting one to a car that's not an Astra?
The speedo is going to be tricky I think?

A very helpful forum. Having one myself I know the transducers from the gearbox can be a pain.

What car/engine/gearbox are you planning to use?

Hardest bit will be finding a cheap pulse converter. Years ago a chap on MIGweb (vaux forum) used to produce a pulse converter that allows you to adjust things like speedo or rev signals. his site is still going but doesnt list anything (http://www.picbits.co.uk ).




Also the Astra dashes came with 2 versions of the speedo drive/pulse generator. IIRC one was 6or 8 pulse the other was 16. so this might help in getting a correct signal.

I was hoping to attach it to my leader 400 running a fiat twin cam
but if it's going to be too much trouble I'll have to have a rethink

Its fairly simple, the dash needs a pulsed signal, the only challenge is calibrating that signal.

It used to be tricky getting it to work in a Vauxhall other than the Astra with a Vauxhall engine. Years ago you could get the different speed sensors from breakers but now they would be near enough impossible to find

God knows how tricky it's going to be to get it to work with a fiat engine not in a Vauxhall!

Unless your are using a GM box the speed sensor would be no use anyway. But if you did need one you can new ones up on US ebay for about £30.

The Vauxhall sensor used to screw in to gearbox. So the spinning bit turned something inside the speed sensor which Inturn created the pulse. It wouldn't work on your gearbox if you cant screw it in!

I would advise you against it.

Humans have recognising shapes for many thousands of years before coming up with numerals.

It may be funky but an analogue circular dial with pointer beats it hands down

Youll soon learn what speed you are doing by where the piinred is instead of having to read two digits.

Btw I had one and never again.

As an aside, you select gauges so they all point in the same direction under normal condition, then it is easy and quick to spoit the one indicating a fault.
