New ECU and a free giveaway...

Hi everyone...

So alot of you already know me/my company Motorsport Electronics for the NODIZ ignition only ECU...

Well for the last 4 years we have been working on our ME221 ECU which started as a PnP for the MX5 and has taken the UK by storm, becoming the defacto ecu for the MX5 as well as about to being launched in the states by Flyin Miata... anyway... we have now taken our little ME221 core and turned it into a standalone, wire in ECU for 4 cylinder engines.

Top and bottom line, for less than youd pay for an Omex 600 you get a more feature rich ECU, having things like fully sequential fuelling, more IO, windowed knock control etc etc, but you also get a 'plug and play' 4 cylinder loom....

What we are looking for is a couple of early adopters who will get a discount on the ECUs retail price (with loom) bringing it to £595inc instead of usual £695inc), and also mapping for only £100 at our facility in wiltshire so we can add to our basemaps - looking for either OEM 2.0 Zetecs or Zetecs on bike throttle bodies/jenveys etc.

There's a load more info on our ebay listing for this unit:

ME221 Zetec Plug and Play ECU ST170 Engine Management (not Megasquirt or Omex)

Have a quick look, and if interested, please reply below!

Cheers
Matt & Alex

Not that it affects me as i'm not running a good enough engine, but what's the "free giveaway" part of this then?

Not sure of your timescales here....
I have just bought an ST170 engine. Plan is to strip it, check it over and pop it in my (Triumph!)spitfire running on bike TB's

I think the ecu will control the ST170? and is this the sort of project you are looking for? And can it be supplied with an "about correct" base map so it could be driven to you, carefully.

Cheers
Clive

Like the wiring diagram.
Will you be able to run the later ecoboost engines? my duratec system now has vvt on a map wondering if you will be adding this.

Hi Guys,

This is Alex, co-founder of ME and the guy who wrote the software for the ME221 platform.

The ECU will indeed run the ST170 VVT correctly, as did our previous product, the VVTPro. Unfortunately, the Ecoboost is a direct-injection engine and the ME221 platform is intended for port-injection only. We do have plans for another core, one that would be able to run direct-injection, but I'm afraid I couldn't give you a timeline for it.

@cliftyhanger: This is exactly the kind of project we'd be looking for. When do you estimate you'll have this done? We can supply you with a basemap, do you have a wideband to check the overall fueling?

For any other information, both me and Matt are available.

PS: The free giveaway is the much reduced cost of the mapping and the discounted ECU. All in all, about £300 in savings, or 30% discount.

Cheers,
Alex

Replied!

Guys, we'll be doing this as a 10-spot limited group buy. You can purchase the ECU separately for £595, with the option to get it mapped for £100 within the next 6-9 months, if your build is not ready yet. The reduced price is just for these units, it's highly unlikely that we'll run any other group buys. People who have followed the success of our ME221 MX5 ECU can attest to that. There was only one group buy done for each model's launch.

Please mention if you want mapping or not. We only have 5 spots for mappings at £100. Stock will be ready to ship next week, so payment will have to be done by then.

Cheers,
Alex & Matt

For the people that are not familiar with the ME221 platform, it was also used in Cart Throttle's turbo MX5. Here's what Nick Bailey (Skuzzle) had to say about it:

I'm building a tiger Avon, have a st170 in the garage and about to try to get working via the ford ecu as I am using the original inlet and other st170 bits, vvt and imrc.

Will the me221 happily manage the engine as if it was a stock ecu, and will the base map be fine without mapping as I'm using original inlet, etc?

Presume one advantage of the me221 route is future scalability, e.g. If I wanted to add a turbo this ecu would be capable of supporting?

Future scalability is definitely an important factor and yes, the ME221 would have no trouble to run pretty much anything you can throw at that engine . Basemap-wise, I won't lie to you, the big reason why we are doing this campaign is to build said basemaps. So, although it will probably run your engine, it won't be safe enough to drive around hard, that's why we offer mapping at a very reduced price.

Cheers,
Alex
