Motorcycle tail light as a third brake light

Hi,

I'm thinking of putting a third brake light on my roll hoop, and i've been looking for something suitable that'll keep the IVA man happy.

The best looking candidate so far is a small LED motorcycle tail/brake lamp.

I'ts apparently E marked.

Whats the consensus on how happy the IVA tester will be with my bright idea?

Paul

No need for e mark. Just needs to be comparible to an emarked equivalent. So as long as its red and bright enough you will be fine.

Thought about doing this (post SVA) on my MK Indy. Decided against it in the end as I didn't want to drill holes in the roll hoop to fix the light or thread the wires through. Certainly a more "visible" spot on the car for drivers behind though!

third brake light is not part of the MOT so it can be non working and still pass, it can be of any type you like, led bulb etc.. it dont matter...... but WHY? if you dont think your car will be noticeable you have gone out in the family Focus and left the kit at home....
you will be asking how to fit air bags next... :-)

from mot manual
code:
Additional stop lamps fitted and connected must be tested. Where extra lamps are fitted and there is doubt as to whether they are connected, the benefit of this doubt should be given to the presenter.

but back to the question of iva
section 22 of the iva manual is quite clear.
yes, you can have 1 or 2 extra brake lights, if just one it must be central,
and they must:
be at least as high as the mandatory lights,
light red,
and face the rear
