Welding T45 to Mild

Evenin' all.

Anyone have any hints and tips for welding T45 tube legs to mild steel feet?

Cheers

309L rods should do you fine, assuming you're using TIG..

HI Scott,

This is very similar to the alloy spec of the tube I used to use.

You can weld it using ordinary mig wire, providing you get a good fillet in the joint. No special alloy wires needed.

Tig with a special rod will be belt and braces, but a bit OTT.

Cheers,
nev.

I've bought myself a roll of 308 MIG welding wire to have a go at some stainless welding. Problem is I'm only using a standard MIG welding gas so it's not going to look pretty.

I need to try stainless to stainless, then stainless to mild. This is for an exhaust so main thing is strong and airtight. Pretty doesn't matter.
