earthing a dual purpose control stalk

Has anyone fitted anything similar to this.....

If so....am i right in saying the earth will come from where it is mounted to the steering column? I.E the clamping of it to the column.

Im trying to tidy up the cockpit in the car as theres a panel with individual toggle switches and it looks pretty bad and hard to manage as i find i look down too much when i try to indicate. I only need indicators, horn, hazzards, dip main full beam so this seems to fit the bill.

EDIT

Forgot to say...this is the wiring guide. I cant see an earth

2 Pin plug - Headlamp flash

8 Pin plug - Brown - Horn

Black/Yellow - Indicator 12v in

Black / White - Left Indicator

Black / Green - Right Indicator

Black - Headlamp 12v in

White - Dip Beam

Yellow - Main Beam

does it need an earth? its only switching the 12volt source, and each load is earthed.

Not too sure mate....my mind is fried!!! The only reason i think it does is the guy who installed the toggle switches (3 pin ones) has all of them earthed

1 pin is live, one is earth and 1 goes to the item such as main beam, left indicator etc etc. All the earths from the current switches go to the same point. If i replace with the multi purpose stalk, i cant work out how it will be earthed as i will be removing the old switches and therefore the earths?

those switches probably have an earth(ground) to illuminate them

I told you my mind was fried. Ive had the car about a year and never noticed they had a small LED on the switches!!!!!!! I had to check a photo to make sure!

So i can get rid of the earths for each of the switches and just wire the new control stalk and not worry about earthing the actual unit as it 'should' be earthed somewhere else along the loom?

yep that's right, all of the items are locally earthed,
but replacement panel lights will require an explicit earth, (ie indicator, beam etc)

edit:
put differently: no that switch does not require an earth, but the loads and any panel lights do.

Its a BEC and has the original Yamaha R1 dash with indicator, beam etc lights within the dash unit so im hoping that it is earthed already for those lights.

The only light/switch i need to earth then should be the fog light which i will keep as a rocker switch

Cheers for your help mate

that dash will require an earth, and it should all just work nicely!
