Car age for road tax exemption?

Hi all,

As some know I currently have a Peugeot 205 GTI. It's an F reg and I'm wondering what age a car has to be to qualify for road tax exemption?

The DVLA website seems to suggest 01/01/1978, so 40 years old. Is that a rolling age - do is it roll on as 40 years so 1978 becomes 1979 in 2019?

Whilst health issues prevent me driving on the road at the moment I'm curious to understand how this works.

Thanks,
Nick

Yes its rolling 40 years.

MOT is similar now but exemption needs to be applied for on age qualification.

Thank you, pretty much as I thought.
