Identify a Kawasaki motorbike

Morning all,

Photo from an old colleague who's on a motorbike tour.

Can anyone identify the motorbike for me please (never been a biker and don't really know much about them)?

Quite an easy one - it's a Versys 1000.

A take on the soft roader thing that's very popular with older folk, V-twin equivalent from Suzuki is the V-Strom along with so many others.

Thank you - I'm going with this suggestion.

It says "1000" on the lower edge of the front fairing (where the riders knee would be).

The chap in question took to bikes later in life and has progressed through a series of what I'd refer to as "scooters" to this. He's by no means a speed daredevil, but now likes to tour with his with riding pillion so probably appreciates going up a little in power!
