New to this - 4 seater
Hi I am very new to this and am toying with the idea of building a locost as per the haynes manual - how to build as sports car for less than £250. i
was wondering what the pratical implications are in making this a four seater rather than two seater, mechanically as well as sva. i could only
presume lengthing the passenger compartment and making the triangulation to fit, but is this ok/common thing to do.
Also was wondering about gearbox etc, I presume I can use a sierra gearbox,propshaft and rear axle instead and some other parts instead of searching
high and low for a MK1 or 2 escort as discribed in the book?

Crikey you're right!! And boy is that ugly looking. To be honest i'll feel scared enough hooning around with one buddy next to me.
Whole family? I don't think i'd be able to go near the throttle!

But if that's your thing - why the hell not?? The first thing that comes to mind is that significantly increasing the length of the chassis at
the low sill section, and intending to load it up with an extra 150 or so kg, would call for substantial uprating of the tubing used. I'd
recommend 2x1" for the top and bottom rails in the sill section to resist bending.

It wouldn't look like a Sevenesque anymore, but I've had a hankering to get a wrecked WRX or 2.5RS and build a tube frame for it, leaving
the entire drivetrain intact. You'd end up with something dunebuggyish, 4wd, with 4 seats and knock 1000 lbs. or so off in the process.

This is a bit like asking for directions in the country - "If you want to go there, I wouldn't start from here!"
A seven-style car is a glorified roller-skate with 2 seats. If you want 4 seats then look elsewhere...
Just my 2p's worth... but I can't think of a nice 4-seater just at this moment...

I'd opt for the above idea of using a complete 4/5 seater and making a space frame for it. Either end up with a rally car or a big dune buggy.
Wouldn't amke a 4 seta 7 though, it'd look silly and probably wouldn't be what you want it to be once built.

I like the fact in one picture the two people in the front have crash helmets on, but the two in the back are just sitting in their bare smiles.

If you go that route, I go along with Liam - though maybe even larger steel.
I'd also be inclined the lose the 7 look and maybe go for more complete bodywork.

I think the 7 would need changing too much to make 4 people fit. You might be better off with a morgan style car as has been said. They are more
touring style which is what you would be doing with 4 people anyway. (you wouldnt really want to go 4 up when you go out for a blat!)
This is my mates +4 Its a 4 seater, but doesnt look out of proportion, the seats are very small though!
She might look a bit tatty, but she is 53 years young and used to race in the willhire 24hr event.
She made it to le mans and back last year too!
