Pug 306 judder

Don't know if any of you have a 306 or have come accross this problem before but i have brake judder under light braking about 40mph.

It is comming from the rear as when the handbrake is put on it judders also.

all new disks and drums. I am at a loss.

Could it be the rear hubs? or some kind of susspension thing?

Any help would be great!! Sorry it's off topic but noone seems to have a clue!

Rear beam bushes?? Pad loose in the carrier??

Can you fell it through the brake pedal or does it just make the car judder?

at the rear the axle-frame is attached with an rubbermounting to the trunk. These come often get torn. Look if these are in healty condition.

If so, Are you really sure that the discs are not screwed up?

Still sounds like lateral runout in a brake rotor to me. Also - check for any fluid leakage onto the rotors. A drop or two of brake fluid or other lubricant (particularly silicone brake grease!) inadvertantly left on the rotor will do this, for sure! Even a greasy fingerprint on the rotor surface while installing will cause this.

Check the rear calipers where they seat to the hub, the ally can oxidise under one side and push the calipers away from the hub, making them no longer inline with the disks IYSWIM

PS Any chance of calling brake disks errr, "disks" instead of "rotors" ? Just seems to make sense to me to speak English on an English server, 'specially if you're English, like...

check to see if its got a rear brake compensator, these can sieze, when mine starts to stick on my 405, which happens quite often, it makes the rear brakes pulse a bit

I second that, we will be spelling tyre wrong and calling bonnets hoods before you know it.

See if you can get the car put on a brake roller tester , should show up any fluctuation quickly.

I would go with the beam mounts. Sort of family thing with Pugs over several models.

I see from your post that you have fitted new drums to the rear. Some years ago I purchased new drums for my old AX, (long gone to the breakers), had much the same problem, turned out to be a faulty drum, turner slightly out of centre, exchanged it problem solved. Not saying yours is the same, but worth a check. Regards Ray.

Just to be pedantic, 'disk' is actually spelt disc in the UK. 'Disk' is the American spelling that has crept over here with computer usage.

Thanks for the tips but the car was doing it before we changed the drums too (thats why we changed them). Thanks for the help! This forum really is invaluable!

Is it a noise or a vibration? I have a 306 estate which makes a juddering sound under braking and it's the exhaust banging about on its rubber mounting.

They have a brake tester when you do an MOT don't they. Would this sort out brakes from beam mounts?

Yep. Itl make the gauge wobble if uv got a oval drum ot warped disk. Most garages will put it on the rollers for small money. Youl soon see if its the brakes.

If u get underneath and see if theres any movent in the beam bushes or any splits etc.
