limited power up to 4000rpm

hi all, thought you guys may be able to shed some light.
bought a little Mazda MX-3 for £400 couple of weeks back (just a run around to get me to new place of work)
but upto 4000rpm it is OK to say the least, once at 4000its almost like someone turned an afterburner on or switched the nitro on, its unreal but cant understand why i dont have the same power upto 4000rpm.
please help you guys.
its a '93 mazda mx-3 1.8 V6

thanks in advance

possibly someone has put a fast road or mild race cam in it, fine so long as you don't want to tow anything, unlikey in an MX-3

saying that my Volvo doesn't get going till past 3500rpm, it gets a little nuts after that

Sounds about right to me most engines have a "power band" somewhere between 3-4k rpm for petrol road cars. Turbo diesels somewhere around 1,800rpm.

Perhaps the power band is worn out?...

Someone will be along shortly to provide us with a link to the company selling brand new power bands

My GF has a V6 MX3 and does the same thing. I have always assumed it to be the variable volume inlet manifold activating.

My punto has no power, but then past 4000 it makes this really loud noise, which I think fools me into thinking I'm going fast...

Well I now know how it will behave on throttle bodies
It feels just like I expected a V6 to feel - loads of torque , smooth as silk , no noticeable power band - and revs untill I`ve had enough

So it does rather sound like the 4000 rpm thing is to do with the variable intake thingy..........
