Grotty little kit cars !

I did a corporate track day at Donington today (freebie through work).

During signing on I overheard a bloke saying "I hadn't realised that they were going to let those grotty little kit cars on today".

I didn't find out what car he was driving but I hope it was either the Porsche or the BMW M5 that were both having real problems up against my "grotty little kit car" (they might have more straight line speed but in the corners they looked like a couple of barges).
Neither would move over to let me by either - if only you could overtake in the corners on trackdays.

More like embarrassment at the fact that something someone has built in their garage from scrapyard parts can make a mockery of their second mortgage super cars!

Neither would move over to let me by either - if only you could overtake in the corners on trackdays.

If somemone won't let you past after three laps, show them your nose a couple of times and if that doesn't work slam it up the inside, they know your there and the thought of fibre glass rash on their posh cars soon makes them back off.

I work in the IT industry (don't we all?) and do some free work for a company in the motorsports industry. In return they give us a couple of free track days and some tickets to motorsports events free each year (hence the suite I got for some of the locostbuilders to watch the 750MC kit car races back in September). Only sales jobs going at the moment. If you are any good at selling IT consultancy / services and are located in the East Midlands (Derby office) we want to hear from you.

if they don't move over then look where there is the least attentive marshall and take them there. I usually sit on their bumper and they usually let you through.

If they are the kind of up their own ars* tw*t who uses the term 'grotty little kit cars' that probably will be the point they go and complain to the marshals until you get black flagged.

I know it is rather boring, but if someone refuses to pull over for you either report them to the marshall or drop back and create a little space for yourself. (BTW I don't follow my own advice, but I should.)

I had a problem with a very powerful (330bhp) supercharged Elise at Brands last month. He'd brake rediculously early, go round the bend very slowly, then floor it. I should have backed off and created space, but I was having great fun with a race prepared Porker and didn't want to abandon that. After a few laps I let the Porker overtake me and have a go at the Elise, once again with little success. But after a while he went a little wide at surtees and we both nipped by without upsetting the marshals.

Unfortunately exactly the same thing happened on the next session. This time I was having fun with a different superchanrged Elise, and we caught teh guy up again. Same story of being blocked for a few laps. But this time he spun it coming out of Graham Hill. The Elise I was following lost it as well leaving me nowhere to go, so I had to just slam on the brakes and hope.

It was OK, just, but it shows the risk of sticking too close to a slow car round bends through frustration.

I followed the guilty Elise driver into the pits and, er, had a few words about observing blue flags.

So do I - we have machines installed in all kinds of environments, when you have been working on the ones in manufacturing (particularly heavy engineering) you end up looking like you've been in the garage all day. You'd be amazed how much crap ends up inside the computer / server cases.
