Good day in the garage today

Well peep's

I went into the garage at 10am this morning, removed the 1.8 zetec and fitted my newly purchased 2.0.
By 2.30 pm it was running lovely.I do however have an issue with the starter
that i would like the font of all knowlege
to please consider.

I am using a pinto starter with 14mm spacers to give it the correct throw but it is sitting hard against the side of the 1.6 escort sump.Do you all think this will be ok,or should i look for a different starter?

Also i need some 3mm steel plate to make a sump guard, can anyone point me in the direction of a cheapish supplier in the north east?

many thanks,

andy

the sump does need to be modified really it needs a section cutting out to the side and a plate welding inside the sump to allow clearance. You will find that the starter is actually sitting at a slight angle due to it fouling the sump. This could cause excessive pressure on the starter bearings or the ring gear.

I have been involved in 2 zetec engine transplants and both needed this doing albeit they where mondeo sumps. The only difference between the two is the depth.

Sorry to harp on have you baffled the sump to account for the different orientation and prevent oil surge ? starvation ?

If the clearance is so 'nearly right' that they just about fit, could you not 'modify' the sump with the large persuader?
